Man to face child cruelty charges over laced soup

JONESBORO, Georgia (AP) -- County prosecutors will pursue child cruelty charges against a man who admitted tampering with his children's soup to get money from the Campbell Soup Co.

William Allen Cunningham, 41, pleaded guilty to communicating false claims last week in federal court. But local officials said those charges do not address the harm done to his children.

Clayton County District Attorney Jewel Scott said the state case will be reopened and prosecutors will seek to indict Cunningham on five counts of child cruelty.

Cunningham's 3-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter were hospitalized twice in January 2006 -- the first time after eating soup laced with hot peppers and lighter fluid, and the second time with the prescription drugs Prozac and Amitriptyline.

According to federal prosecutors, Cunningham called the soup company and threatened to sue. Under the terms of his federal plea agreement, Cunningham could be sentenced to as many as five years in federal prison when he is sentenced April 19.

did you also hear about the man (i think he lives in georgia, but i may be wrong) who locked his toddler out of the house because she wouldn't go to sleep? she wandered a little, and later was found near a nearby park, where she had frozen to death. five years in prison is too good for that tool, as is whatever punishment they pick for the so-called "father" of that baby who roamed around by herself, in the dark, in the cold...

yeah I heard about both. I couldn't believe the Dad that let his daughter wander around. Did you also hear that same dad may have done stuff to the other daughter that is still alive? She said he came in the room and that's when the one little girl got up and then she started crying and wouldn't go to sleep so he put her outside but the park was really far away so he took her pretty far. Then he tried to say someone took her but witnesses saw him out and then he admitted to it. Craziness.

OMG, i hadn't heard about the girl freezing to death story. Holy hell. That's crazy. What a sad, sad world we live in.

The little kid thing tears me up. So I can't comment further on that.

I can, however, comment on the insane lawsuits. There's a McD's at the "lovely" corner of 56th & Sligh in good ol' Temple Terrace. Apparently a kid there was packin' some heat (no wayyyyy) and there was a fight. Bottom line, a kid got shot, and now they're suing McD's for not securing their parking lot from riff raff. (Or is it rif raf?)

I think it's riff raff. A gun? On Sligh? Get out! *sigh*
