So I've been TAGGED!
Dang, books - I used to read all the time ... let's see if i can answer these.
1. A book that changed my life: The Bible (King James Version or New Living works, too). I converted to Christianity back in junior high (none of this "middle school" bull for me). My parents flipped when my sister converted, so I kept my newfound religion on the DL. One day, I had a little mini bible in my purse. I missed the school bus so my dad drove me to school. I left my purse in the car by mistake. He picked up my mom from work later that morning. They discovered the purse in the car and parked under a tree in a random parking lot and proceeded to rifle through my belongings. They found the bible, a note I had written to my best friend detailing all the celebrities I had a crush on (Alec Baldwin, Matthew Ashford (Jack from DOOL (come on, people, that's Days of Our Lives)) and Harrison Ford (this is back in '89, ok - the days of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Regarding Henry - not the geriatric Harrison Ford of today with the diamond stud in his left ear)), and geez, something else, I can't remember. When I got home, there was hell to pay. They demanded to know why I had a bible of all things in my purse. I surprised myself with my own quick thinking (then again, I had all day to fret once I realized I left my purse in the car - I knew my nosy parents would snoop through it) - "Well, you see, we're studying world religions in my history class, and my group is doing the Bible." That satisfied them. What bugged them more was my list of hotties. They didn't believe me that Matthew Ashford was a celebrity, so they thought I was getting it on with some kid at school. Yeah, no. But how cool would that have been? ac + ma 4eva!
Wow, that was a long answer. I promise that the others won't be as long. But even still, I'll put my answers in the extended entry ...
2. A book that I've read more than once: Goodnight Moon. We read this every night aloud to Owen til he was about 6 months old or so. Now we just recite it and don't even open the book. A lot of good it does. And don't ask me about adult books - I usually only read a book once and then that's it. Even books I love love love.
3. A book that I'd like to take to a deserted island: The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook. Dude, I don't need to read for leisure if I'm stuck on an island. I want to get the hell out of there. Unless of course, Matthew Ashford is on that island with me. Heh. Although I did see one of those celebrity soap star real life things on SoapNet (I rarely ever flip to that channel, but one of the few times I did, Wally Kurth was interviewing Matt), and Matt seems like a freaking health freak. A holistic one at that. Sorry, but I don't really feel like doing asana yoga and drinking wheat germ if I'm stuck on a deserted island.
4. A book that made me laugh: Running with Scissors, by Augusten Burroughs. I've had that one on my amazon wish list for forever and a day, and Ryan finally bought it for me like 3 or 4 months ago. I'll probably be getting a sitter so I can go catch the movie when it comes out.
5. A book that made me cry: Man, my memory has gone to crap since I've gotten pregnant. I know there are several books that made me cry to the point where my heart felt it was ripped out of my body, and my eyes were redder than a firetruck, and puffier than a pirate's shirt (ha, i was feeling scholarly, so decided to whip out the metaphors) - but I can't remember any of them at the moment. I do remember crying when I read The Thorn Birds, by Colleen McCullough. Dammit, Meggie, I wish things HAD worked out for you and Ralph de Bricassart!!!!!
6. A book I wish had been written: How to Raise an Owen to be a happy baby, toddler, pre-teen, teenager, adult, middle-aged man who won't have a complex, and old fogey (not a crotchety old man). Imagine all the Teen Angst I could avoid!
7. A book that have never should have been written: The Screenplay for Showgirls. OK, I know it's not technically a BOOK, but I bet that screenplay was typed up and bounded like a book. Lord almighty, that's 2 hours of my life I will NEVER get back. And that was in college. Two hours when I could have been at the purple porpoise. Or the Swamp. Or at Burrito Bros. Or at Leonardo's. Or somewhere else, dammit.
8. A book that I'm currently reading: Dry, by Augusten Burroughs. I just have like a page or two to go. It's a sequel of sorts to Running With Scissors.
9. A book that I'm planning to read: Next on my list is What to Keep, by Rachel Cline. It was on my wishlist and Ryan got it for me.
10. Who I'm tagging next: I'm gonna tag Mandy on this one!
Matthew Ashford?!?!?!?! LOL!!!!
It's funny because on my digital cable's INFO button for DOOL, it says, "Starring Matthew Ashford and Kristian Alfonso....relationships grow & die in Salem"
They think Matthew Ashford is the star of the show???? Must be a man writing the info. Or acb. ;)
Didja see Soap Opera Digest's cover this week? Apparently Jack & Jen are leaving this month. Therfore, Frankie is fired. And Jason Cook is leaving. And Kyle Brandt. Shawn D is being recast. No mention of Philip's status.
Guess what mag Mom bought me while I was sick....
Christine -
YEAH! MATT ASHFORD! He's still hot. :) I dvr'd one ep of Days so I could see what he looked like these days and he's still cute. I guess he's not dying or dead anymore.
Yeah, i heard that jack and jen were leaving the show. matt doesn't want to, but missy is determined to leave, so there isn't much of a storyline for him w/out her.
and if she's not around, what's the point of frankie being around? poor billy warlock. he thought he hit the bigtime when he got that baywatch gig. maybe they'll bring emilio back?
who is jason cook?
good riddance to kyle brandt. he was annoying. is annoying. him and his one leg. ... oh wait, isn't kyle brandt the guy who plays philip? oh yeah, ok, you were talking about recasting. so is jason cook shawn d? i dunno about the 'new' belle - but kristen storms definitely wouldn't have been able to play the ho that belle became.
ANYWAY!!!!! i know too much. :) we can chat more about this offline if you want. ha!
I'm still not over Kirsten/Kristen Storms leaving. I call her Belle the 1st. Belle the 2nd was that god-awful girl that only made it 22 days (including weekends), before Belle the 3rd (current) was put there. You're right--K couldn't pull off the virginal-slut role. Now that this ShawnD is leaving, I'm finally okay with the writers breaking up Belle & Shawn. I was still clinging to the possibility they'd fire Martha & hire K-dog. Damn. My sis-in-law teases me for my optimism. LOL
Matt is seriously gorgeous.
In the 80s I had a crush on Matt and Harrison too. Now, it's still Matt, despite the addition of 20ish yrs to both our lives!
